Carnival Weekend 2009

After Wa’s most successful season of the Premier Elite League, November 2009 saw the top six Elite teams from the Sunday & Wednesday leagues meet for Elite Carnival Weekend. From the Wednesday Night’s ten Teams the top three were Blazing Mongolians + Rosa, Pool Something Elite & the Shlong Dongers. The Window Lickerz actually finished in the top three but could not make Carnival weekend so forfeited their spot to fourth placed, Rosa & Co.  From Sunday Nights ten teams the top three were Money Shots, Razzlers & the Neil Bartons. Fourth place from Sunday went to the Long Shots, who played a player down for most of the season and still finished in the money only just missing their spot in the Carnival finals. The eight mention teams collected $8000.00 for their league season placing’s.

Carnival weekend kicked off on the Friday night & saw the top guns go head to head, playing off for $1600 in cash & the Title of 2009’s Premier Elite Singles Champion. The cream rose to the top with the top 8 looking like this: 8th Ben Dougherty, 7th Colin Fender, 6th Evan Ray, 5th Simon Gray, 4th Michael Sammut, 3rd Evan Briggs, 2nd Neil Barton & the 2009 singles Champion being Luke Carter.

First thing Saturday morning saw 36 eager players arrive at Miss Q’s for the first day of the teams event, eager for the intense marathon of match play that lay ahead and even more eager to collect their share of the $10,600.00 cash prize pool and possibly the all expenses paid team trip to New Zealand.

Three rounds & 216 frames of pool were played on the first day leaving the three Sunday teams in the top three positions. The final day saw an additional two rounds & 144 frames played and these were the final scores: 6th Pool Something Elite – 89, 5th Blazing Mongolians + Rosa – 107, 4th Shlong Dongers – 127, 3rd Money Shots – 230, 2nd Razzlers – 239 and a convincing win to the Neil Bartons 1st – 284.

The player of the Carnival accumulated an amazing 51 out of a possible 60 wins to take this years title and that player was none other than the Beast Master himself Ben Vidot, giving a clean sweep to the Neil Bartons, dominating the league season, the singles and the carnival. Congratulations to Luke & his team on an awesome result & all I can say is watch out Kiwi’s this may be the team to bring home the goods for Premier in 2010.

In closing a massive congrats to all the finalists as well as everyone who played in ’09 & Cheers to the hardworking Captains that made it such an awesome season, see you all in 2010.
